One of my biggest frustrations since moving to Japan is how thin the skin of Japanese people is.   Do you know what this means?  To have thin skin means that you are easily offended especially to criticism.     Can I encourage you to have a teachable spirit?  One of the ways we can grow as a person and learn new things is to learn from our mistakes.  One of the ways to learn from our mistakes, is for people who are our friends, to lovingly point out our mistakes to us.   Don't be insulted every time someone does this.   I am a pastor and a teacher, so my job is to teach the Bible.  It is also to help the people around me to live a better life, by adapting their attitude and actions to be in line with what the Bible teaches.  It seems that 9 out of 10 Japanese people that I have given advice to, have thin skin.  That means, that no matter how hard I try to be kind with my words, and correct them in a loving way, they are going to be offended.   This thin skin shows that they have an

今日は家族と一緒に佐賀県の小城市と長崎県の雲仙に行きました。とても楽しい一日でした。家族と一緒に過ごせる日は幸せですね。みなさんも良い、週末を過ごしでしょうか？　雲仙は初めてだったので、私は楽しみにしていました。家族は楽しみにしていたけど、違う理由でした。家族にはSURPRISEの一日でした。お出かけするということしか言いませんでした。朝の出発の時間、帰りの時間、そして、どこかで温泉に入ります、しか教えなかった！ どこに行くのかが分からずに車を乗る人は普通はいないでしょう。こういう時にしかできないことですね！人生はどうでしょうか？多くの人間はどこに向かっているのが分からずに日々を過ごしています。言いなおすと、目標のない毎日です。子育てでも、夫婦関係でも、｢理想な家庭｣って何なのかが分からずに、｢なんとかなる｣の考えを持って、生活をするのは危ないです。一日の旅の｢なんとかなる｣はたまに楽しいでしょうけど、人生にはお勧めできません！

Have you ever heard this expression?  This expression comes from the music world, but is often used by English speakers in settings that have nothing to do with music.   I just used it today, actually.   I was talking about my plans for next Tuesday.  I told my kids, "let's just play it by ear."   It means that we don't need to make concrete plans ahead of time, but we can wait until Tuesday and decide then based on the circumstances and schedule of that day.   In the music world, "to play something by ear", means to play something on a musical instrument without having any sheet music in front of you.  You just make up the notes as you go, based on how it sounds. 今日、子どもたちと来週の火曜日のスケジュールについて、話していました。そのときに使った英語の表現ですが、このＰｌａｙ　Ｉｔ　Ｂｙ　ＥＡＲという表現は音楽の世界から来ています。楽譜がなく、耳で引くという意味です。引きながら、次の音を考えて、何とかなるという意味です。人生にはある所まで、計画をたてられますが、絶対的に来週の火曜日に何がおきるかがわからないので、心配しないで生きるという意味です。 聖書にも、同じようなことが書いてあります。　 マタイ6:27　あなたがたのうちだれが、心配したからといって、自分のいのちを少しでも延ばすことができますか？ 計画はいいですが、細かいところまで、
